Ducks & Angels. What more could you want?

A couple of milestones reached today while Folding@Home. Not only did I pass the 10,000 point mark early this morning (around 4am), but at the end of the day, my points per day average will be at its highest ever - over 500. With HELIOS being cleaned up, it's processing points faster and even though ICARUS is hardly ever on, it looks like it submitted a scant 42 points late last night. I'm still trying to get MENOETIUS online, but I'm without a spare power supply at the moment. I am thinking about taking one out of Pandora's Box and seeing if I can run both PROMETHEUS and EPIMETHEUS on one power supply, but I'm not going to have the time today to get inside there and take one out.

I also plan on making a few changes to Pandora's Box - including mounting the KVM on a wall and adding another fan or two for exhaust. I'd probably need another intake, but that'll come at the point the third board goes in the box (a ways away at this point).

But after just 23 days of folding only on computers within my house (I haven't taken over any friend's computers or the like), I've passed 10,000 points and should be just over 500 points per day.

Today was by far and away my most productive day for Folding at Home. Four different computers turned in work units with both Arion and Atlas turning in multiple units. Pegasus finished a bit 600 pointer and the new and improved Helios (formerly Behemoth) kicked in 246 points. With today's points, I easily jumped into the top 2,000 on the [H]ardOCP team, the [H]orde. I actually moved up 150 spots - from 2,005 to 1,855. Overall, for all Folding at Home participants, I moved up over 7,000 to just over 60,000th spot (when I started tracking at 3,412 points, my ranking was 100,800). I have now completed 8,319 points for Folding at Home in 36 work units and I'm heading towards 10,000 quickly now (averaging around 460 points per day).

I'm still working on getting Menoetius online, but still can't get any video out of it. I've ordered a PCI video card though and that should arrive early this week. I also have plans to modify Pandora's Box since it is still running a bit hot. I'm going to add two extra exhaust fans on the back and also move the KVM to the back panel. This will reduce the number of computers allowed inside to just three, but it's running hot enough at two, four would be overkill, even with the added exhaust. So, hopefully the PCI video card will allow me to get Menoetius up and running in Pandora's Box and increased airflow should help reduce temps. I swapped out an old heatsink on Epimetheus because the computer kept on returning bad units and temperatures dropped significantly (and the new heatsink (a stock AMD Socket A heatsink and fan) is much quieter). If I have some spare cash on the next paycheck (doubtful), I'll probably get a couple of Arctic Cooling heatsink and fans to put in Pandora's box - should lower temperatures on the CPUs a bit and also be a lot quieter than the ones in there already.

And the truth....shall set you free!

Last week while surfing the net, I heard about Cindy Sheehan for the first time even though I guess she's been camped out in front of George Bush's ranch for about two weeks now. Apparently, all she wanted was a chance to meet with President Bush after her son was killed in Iraq. No problem there (in principle - of course, we can't have every family who lost a son or daughter in Iraq or Afghanistan meeting with President Bush), however, it now appears that her ulterior motives are coming to the front.

At first, she was just opposing the war - something I would expect from a mother of a son who died in Iraq. She could be called selfish for demanding a meeting with the President, but if all she wanted was to ask some questions and get some answers, where's the harm in that? But now...what is Cindy Sheehan doing? Why, calling for Israel to get out of Palestine of course.
"You get America out of Iraq and Israel out of Palestine and you'll stop the terrorism," Sheehan declares.
Say what? How does losing your son in Iraq translate into getting Israel out of Palestine? That just makes no sense at all. Mourning your son is all fine and well, but turning his death into a way to get national media attention for Palestine? That's just crazy.

And it's not just that...she also is refusing to pay taxes now.
Sheehan, who is asking for a second meeting with President Bush, says defiantly: "My son was killed in 2004. I am not paying my taxes for 2004. You killed my son, George Bush, and I don't owe you a penny...you give my son back and I'll pay my taxes. Come after me (for back taxes) and we'll put this war on trial."
OK, let's get this straight. You think you don't have to pay taxes now? And this is related to your son dying how? Sounds like she cares less and less about her son now and would rather have her political agenda at the forefront and also make some money at the same time.

Her son went to fight in the Iraq war because he believed in the cause. The fact that you don't Ms. Sheehan is fine. You didn't believe in the war before your son died, and now you believe in it even less. But you've already met with the President. Meeting with him again will do no good. He's not suddenly going to join the side of the Palestinians - peace in the Middle East just isn't that simple. He's not going to allow every family member of every soldier that died to not pay taxes in 2004 - really - what's the point of that? And he's not going to be impeached like you are calling for.

What began as mourning your son has turned into a media circus. You're now a pawn for all the MoveOn.org crazies. If you had just camped outside the ranch for two weeks and not gained national media exposure, you probably would have had a second meeting with President Bush. But he can't now. No matter how many crazy demands you make or crazy sentiments you express. No matter how horrible it must be to have lost your son in Iraq. Such is the cost of war. Such is the cost of freedom.
