Ducks & Angels. What more could you want?

2005/12/01

Well, I found me a new piece of software that I love. Xlobby.

It's a simple little program that can manage your movies, music, games, pictures, etc. and the output from my video card to my television is gorgeous.

The beauty of the program is that it is so infinitely customizable via the skins which are all written in XML. I'm still learning how to get everything working and figuring out how it'll all work, but it's coming along.

The biggest thing I want the program to do is play my television shows I've been ripping to my so-called "TV SERV." I optimally want a screen which shows the different series (one cover per season) and then from there, you could go directly to that series and pick the episode you want to watch.

The first part was easy to setup. I've got the different series beautifully displayed (though I have some ideas for tweaking it). However, I'm unable to jump to the right point in the listing of television episodes as of yet. But I'll figure it out.

Until then, here's a few pictures of the sweet setup of Xlobby:

Seinfeld Season 6 compressed from 21.7 to 13.0 gigs. Just for my future reference.

I'm working on configuring both Meedio and Xlobby to provide the interactivity I need and both have their pros and cons. Xlobby is infinitely customizeable while Meedio has many more plugins and is much more slick (it is a pay product, whereas Xlobby is free).

I'm still undecided on which one I'll use, but they both seem to work pretty well and might both fit my needs.
