Ducks & Angels. What more could you want?

More fire, more smoke.

Everything seemed to die down an hour or so ago, but then I was hit by the smell of smoke in my room as a door was open to cool the house down after 90+ degree day. The fire flared up again and is very visible now from the house.

I believe that our mandatory evacuations are now voluntary and we're looking good right now with almost no wind. However, tomorrow's expected to be even hotter and the winds will probably pick up again.

Well, mandatory evacuations just hit. We're sticking around though - the fire seems pretty far away and we heard through a friend that the firefighters believe they have it under control. So we're just sitting tight and we're going to wait it out.

Sirens all around. Every year, it's the same drill. Be it January or March or October, there's going to be a fire near us. This time it's pretty darn close and since 8am this morning, all I've been hearing are sirens. Luckily I came home when I did after heading out this morning to play some cards. Now all roads in are blocked and we're just sitting tight. There's some coverage on CNN, which is odd for a fire like this - but it's a slow news day.

Once I was finally able to orient myself with tract after tract of homes being shown on CNN, it was kind of scary to see how close the fire has gotten. But the wind is blowing more to the south than to the west which is good for us, but all that's to the south is more dry brush and single houses rather than tracts.

No houses lost yet. The good folks of the LA Fire Department, Anaheim, Orange, and all sorts of other surrounding agencies are doing a great job thus far.
