I'm not sure how they did it, but within 10 minutes of announcing the death of Gerald Ford, they had a retrospective that lasted about 7-10 minutes. I'm sure they have them ready to go for most famous "older" people, so it's not that surprising, just like we've seen obituaries pop up on CNN or other sites before the person has died - just having them ready to post at a moment's notice.
