Ducks & Angels. What more could you want?

2006/05/25

I know it's been a while, but between work and World of Warcraft, I don't really have time to post here. However, today on the way home, I had to change my course of travel due to an accident. At the time I was pissed off because a) people can't drive and b) it added about 1/2 hour to my commute. Leaving for our work softball game, the road was still closed, so I figured they were just finishing up. But then, coming home from the game, with the road still closed, I figured there had to be a fatality.

Unfortunately, there was. A city councilman died in the crash, and even though I don't know him, my sympathy goes out to his family. The road where the crash occurred is heavily trafficked and I'm sure they're going to step up speed-traps in the area, but when you've got two lanes going each way with a small median in the middle (no curb - just painted), accidents are bound to happen. In fact, this is the second major accident on that road this year.

On top of that, just a few days ago, a wrong way driver on the toll road I drive daily killed herself and another person when she crashed into the other woman's car at 60mph+. The other driver, just minding her own business, going the right way was immediately killed, and also the sister of a good friend of a coworker (ok...a stretch, but the coworker knew her). I just have reassert my position that people these days don't know how to drive.

Statistics say that people think they're a better driver than they really are, so even though I consider myself and excellent driver, I know I'm not perfect - I've made mistakes - but I've never caused a crash, or even been close to causing a crash. I just think there need to be more stringent rules placed on drivers. There needs to be consequences for driving like an idiot.

If you have too many points, your license gets taken away, but it's pretty damn hard to do that and the only real way you can accomplish that is to get some DUI's. But if there were stricter penalties for not knowing how to drive, people would drive more carefully. If they didn't - they'd lose their license. They'd then have to carpool, or...gosh...take public transportation. The freeways would be less cluttered, there'd be less accidents and those people that deserve to drive - those people that know how to drive would be happier. And I'd be one of them.

Thank you for reading my completely self-serving paragraphs. Back to the gist of it all. LEARN HOW TO DRIVE.
