Ducks & Angels. What more could you want?

2006/02/19

Since the "title" of the below post from January of 2005 was: "I know most people probably don't care," we can name this one: "I know most people probably still don't care." But in the linked post, I mentioned my naming scheme for tvSERV. Before, I would name them: Seinfeld S01E01 - The Seinfeld Chronicles. However, I ran into problems with Meedio and the naming scheme. The way you import files into Meedio, you set up a mask - for example: SE - .. However, you can see the problem that might come up. For example: Da Ali G Show S02E01 - Respek.avi. The way the importer thinks it works is:

SeriesName: Da Ali G
SeasonNumber: how - S02
EpisodeNumber: 01
EpisodeName: Respek

What happens is that if you have a word start with "S", it figures that everything after it is the season number. To fix this, I've renamed all my TV shows as: Da Ali G Show - S02E01 - Respek.avi. By adding a dash between the show and the season, you can easy import with: - SE - .. Now, unless you have a " - S" in the middle of the show name, you have no problems - and even when there is a -, such as "The X-Files," the dash has to be followed and preceded by a space with an "S" being the next letter.

So last night, I renamed them all, imported them all, and everything works like a charm!

Oddly enough, however, last night, I ripped seasons 2-5 of Viva La Bam and started compressing them. Season 2 compressed from 7.24 gigs to 8.49 gigs. Yeah...that's right - it went up! I'm still not sure how that happened, but all the settings were the same as all the other rips, so I'm not going to mess with it. Season 3 went from 7.14 to 9.13 gigs and Season 4 went from 7.31 to 8.84 gigs. Just strange - but the first season resulted in large file sizes as well, though I can't figure out how 85% compression increases file size.

Also, added a new storage rack to the room since I needed more space for DVDs now that I've got over 1,000. I added something similar to this, however, it's not quite as tall as the one pictured and holds 546 CDs or 270 DVDs. It went together quite easily and a second one will most likely be added to stand right next to it. Storing 1,000 DVDs just ain't as easy as it might sound. They take up a LOT of space.
