Ducks & Angels. What more could you want?

2005/08/23

Even with Epimetheus temporarily offline (I blew up a power supply while trying to run two computers off the same supply), my points per day continues to climb - to an all time high of 522 at the end of today - and I have cracked the top 1,500 of the [H]orde! I've been folding for just 26 days using only computers in my house (no borging (taking over friend's computers) or farming (using company servers or such) and I've reached over 13,500 points and currently rank #43,411 overall (out of 484,429) - though I really only care about my rank within the [H]orde.

Like I said, Epimetheus should be coming online soon - hopefully it was the PSU that burst and not the motherboard - and depending on the size of my next paycheck, Menoetius could be set to go. I'll probably purchase another Sempron processor from ZipZoomFly as I already have two spare motherboards (neither has been confirmed to work yet though). Should neither motherboard work, I'll still have a good processor and will just need to get a new mobo for about $50.

Either way, yes, like Julia said, I am a geek - and proud of it. My coworkers wonder why I would possibly have four computers running in my room (maybe more soon), but it's all for a good cause. Folding at Home has produced results (as opposed to SETI) and the results actually matter (as opposed to SETI).

Through 26 days:
ARION: 6,481 points (250 PPD)
ATLAS: 1,903 points (190 PPD)
HELIOS: 1,990 points (86.5 PPD)
PROMETHEUS: 679 points (37.7 PPD)
EPIMETHEUS: 741 points (37.0 PPD - very rough estimate [OFFLINE] now)

So those are the computers up and running in my room right now - so as you see, I should be up around 600 PPD, but not all of them have been running all the time and they came online at different times, which is mainly the reason that my PPD is creeping upwards - started at 488 after 9 days, down to 433 after 20 days, and at 522 after 26 (probably will be around 530 or 540 at 30 days).

All in all, this whole project has been great fun. I've been tracking every work unit completed in my spreadsheet and I know when the computers are on the way to turning in more points. ATLAS turns in 168 tonight at 10:30pm, ARION turns in 364 tomorrow at 1:00pm, HELIOS is crunching a bit 600 pointer due at 12:23am on the 26th (these always boost PPD numbers) and PROMETHEUS is also crunching a huge 600 pointer which will be done at 5:00pm on SEPTEMBER 1...

I really hope to get EPIMETHEUS back up and running in the next couple days and when that happens, I will get another boost as I believe it was 90-95% done with a 600 pointer. Both Pegasus and Icarus are chugging away whenever my parents decide to turn them on and...who knows what comes next. I'm loving my computer here, but if I could throw in an AMD X2 3800 for $300, I might jump at the chance - I could then replace one of the ugly 37PPD'ers with my current 250PPD'er.
