Ducks & Angels. What more could you want?

2004/08/03

Just a couple quick thoughts today.
  • The more I think about it, the more offended I am by the "four more years of hell" quote from Teresa Heinz. Where has she been living for the last four years? How much money has she made the last four years? This isn't North Korea where her company would be state run and she would have no rights as a woman. This isn't Iraq under Saddam where she wouldn't be able to show her face in the streets. She's been living in the United States for the past four years, which, after 9/11 haven't been hit by a terrorist attack, which, have enjoyed countless years of prosperity (especially for the Heinz family) and, which, she is free to vote, own property, dress how she wants, say what she wants, and act as stupid as she wants without fear or reprisal from the government, without fear of being thrown in jail, without fear of being rounded up and beaten. It sure must have been hell for her over the past four years.

  • Last week, I heard Kerry on a campaign trip where he stated that he would have immediately implemented every one of the recommendations by the 9/11 commission and he took George W. Bush to task for not doing so. Now, I do agree with most of the points the 9/11 commission suggested, but not all of them are appropriate steps to take immediately without any hesitation. Most of the steps, George W. Bush has already approved and put into motion, but a few, he's still waiting to see how they would help or hinder our efforts in the war on terror and how they might help our country. These are the recommendations coming from the so-called "non-partisan" commission which stood up on their pedestals trying to get their five minutes of fame in front of the television cameras as Richard Clarke testified, the same commission which ripped a news outlet for releasing a document that was approved for release by the National Security Advisor, the same commission which, in the end, didn't really recommend anything new or radical and now wants to stay on the job, getting paid obscene amounts, to oversee their recommendations.

  • And last, but certainly not least, today I leave you with a question. To find the answer, highlight the text in the box below.

Where was Fahrenheit 9/11 screened on national television - not as a "documentary" or as "art," but as propaganda?
    Cuba
